William Howard Gatling, 60, of Victoria, VA died Tuesday, February 4, 2014. Mr. Gatling recently retired as an engineer with Norfolk and Southern Railroad with thirty years of service. He is survived by his wife; Cathy Shelton Gatling; son, William Howard “Will” Gatling, Jr.; daughter, Jessica Gatling Pearson (Roddy) and sister, Jane Gatling Atkinson all of Victoria; nieces and nephews, Ronald Earl (Butch) Atkinson, William Gatling Atkinson, Sarah Jane Atkinson Pendleton and Mathew Harman Gatling; and numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Willey Gatling, Jr. and Dorothy Harman Gatling and his brother, Richard Henry Gatling; he was the grandson of the late Dr. William C. Harman and Jessie Connelly Harman of Brunswick County, VA and the late Joyce Dunning Gatling of Suffolk, VA. William Howard attended Central High School and graduated from Greenbrier Military Academy, and was a member of the "B Suite Cocktail Lounge. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 8, 2014 in the Victoria United Methodist Church, with interment in the Bethel Church Cemetery, Alberta, VA. The family will receive friends, Friday, February 7, 2014 from 6:00-7:30 PM at the Staples Funeral Home, Victoria and at all times at his home, 1811 Bragg Rd., Victoria. Bills middle name is Howard, not Henry. He was a member of The "B" Suite Cocktail Lounge, where he lived in B Company. We will miss seeing him this year at the reunion. Rest In Peace Willy Gatlin !!
