Obituary for Isaac Norris Kantor
Isaac Norris Kantor of Bluefield, West Virginia, passed away peacefully with his family by his side in Mechanicsville, Virginia on July 18th, 2025.

Norris was born in Charleston West Virginia on August 29, 1929 and was raised in Logan, West Virginia. He attended high school at the Greenbrier Military School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Virginia Military Institute, a college which remained dear to his heart.

Following graduation Norris obtained his law degree from West Virginia University. As an Air Force officer Norris served as a Judge Advocate General. It was during his third year of law school that he met Doris Sue Katz, who would become his wife of 69 years. After being briefly stationed in Murfreesboro, Tennessee Norris was assigned to Hickam Airforce Base in Honolulu, Hawaii. While recruited by a Honolulu law firm, he and Doris Sue decided to return to Bluefield, where he joined Jerome and Leroy Katz in what was to be known as Katz, Katz and Kantor.

Norris was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and is survived by his wife Doris Sue Kantor, son Mark Kantor and daughter in law Jane Zalutsky of Cle Elum, Washington, daughter Cindy Kraft of Glen Allen, Virginia and daughter Beth and son in law Joe Zachwieja of Glen Allen, Virginia as well as seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, with one on the way.

Norris was a director of First Community Bank for 34 years and was an active member of his temple, Ahavath Sholom, as well as numerous community activities including the Bluefield Chamber of Commerce, Bluefield State University, Bluefield Rotary, Bluefield Area Development Corporation, American Cancer Society, Visiting Committee of West Virginia University Law, School, West Virginia Counsel of B’nai B’rith and many other civic and philanthropic activities.

Funeral Services was held at Mercer Funeral Home in Bluefield, West Virginia on July 29th at 12:00 pm with Rabbi Victor Urecki officiating to be followed by burial at Monte Vista Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Josh Kantor, Lane Kantor, Erik Zachwieja, Ross Zachwieja, Joe Zachwieja and Richard Katz.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until service time.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Norris’ memory to the Community Foundation of the Virginias.
